Harry B. “Pete” Soloway Jr., 65, died April 13 at his home following a long illness.
Born in Columbia, S.C., he grew up in Morristown, N.J. He had been a Princeton resident since 1969.
He studied electrical engineering at Ohio Northern University and received a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a minor in organ performance from Westminster Choir College. He worked for Princeton Gamma Tech and FMC for a number of years before starting his own computer-network consulting business, LAN Solutions, in 1986.
A musician by avocation, he began with drums and saxophone at age three and continued to pick up new instruments throughout his life. He especially gravitated towards bass instruments like tuba, bass sax, and upright bass. He was also an accomplished singer from an early age, participating in the N.J. All-State Chorus in high school. Although his love for classical music was at the core of his education, he played bass, mandolin, banjo, piano, and flute in several folk-dance groups, primarily the contra-dance band Raise the Roof. He gave joy to dancers and inspired musicians with his extraordinary musicianship and kindness.
An obsessive tinkerer, he was fascinated by how things work. He was extremely generous with his talents, never hesitating to help family and friends with repairs, or to share his endless knowledge on all things musical and mechanical. He comforted many with his humility, empathy, pragmatism, and self-effacing sense of humor.
He is survived by his partner, Eliane Geren; his children, David Ipsen Soloway and Anna Caroline Soloway; their mother, Bette Ipsen Soloway; and his sisters, Susan Daul and Julie Poole.
There will be a memorial service in celebration of his life, followed by a contra dance, on May 7 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton.

Edith R. Golden Beagles died April 16.
Born on June 25, 1932, in Louisville, Ky., she married Ronald “Pete” Beagles in 1954 and they settled in his hometown of Princeton.
She was active in Princeton civic and religious organizations for over 50 years. A vibrant, beautiful, caring, and generous woman, she will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Beagles, Cheryl De Saw, and Cynthia Beagles; and three grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held in Monmouth Junction, N.J.
Gertrude Gurisic Tennyson, 90, died April 18 at Park Place Center in Monmouth Junction, N.J.
Born on November 28, 1920 in Rocky Hill, N.J., she was a long time resident of the borough. Later on she lived in both New Brunswick and Princeton.
She was a 1938 honors graduate of Princeton High School. In her early youth, she organized the first choir at St. James’ Mission Church in Rocky Hill and had been a volunteer at Princeton Hospital. A former member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Princeton, she was also a member of its school’s PTA and was a Consolata Society member. She loved to travel and had done so extensively in the US as well as having made numerous trips to Western Europe.
For many years she worked as a paralegal in the Princeton area at many prominent law firms. She eventually retired as the secretary to the Franklin Township Fire Inspector.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas Tennyson; a son, Alan Tennyson; and a brother, former Somerset County Sheriff George A. Gurisic; she is survived by her sons, Edward, Thomas, Kevin, and Brian; her daughters, Kathleen Lynch and Aileen Lamb; six grandsons; one great grandson; and two sisters, Margaret Voorhees and Grace Gurisic.
Visitation is on Wednesday, April 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Ten Mile Run Cemetery, Franklin Township, N.J.
