It was Easter Sunday and the Princeton University baseball team’s hopes for a Gehrig Division crown were on life support.
Having fallen 8-0 to Columbia in the opening game of a doubleheader that day, Princeton stood at 2-7 in Ivy League play, three games behind the defending champion Lions.
In the nightcap, though senior pitcher Brad Gemberling resurrected the Tigers’ title dreams, striking out a career-high 12 hitters as he hurled Princeton to an 11-4 win.
Mike Olentine soaked up a lot of knowledge in his first two seasons with the Princeton High boys’ lacrosse team.
“I got to play a good amount as a freshman and as a sophomore,” said junior attackman Olentine.
“I got to play with some really good players like Tyler Moni (now playing for Princeton University) and Brandon Polakoff (now playing for Trinity College). I learned from them and the experience of playing on attack. I think I see the field better this year.”
So far this spring, Olentine has been all over the field for the Little Tigers, triggering the offense as PHS has gotten off to a 4-2 start.
Lizzy Price is typically at the top of the scoring sheet for the Princeton High girls’ lacrosse team.
But even though Price had just one goal last Wednesday in a 10-0 win over Hamilton, she was happy to take a backseat statistically.
“That was so much fun because we had everyone scoring,” said Price, reflecting on the victory which saw nine different PHS players find the back of the net as the team improved to 3-0 on the season.
It was the seventh inning of just the seventh game of the season but Mike Ford believed the Hun School baseball team had reached a crossroad.
The Raiders were tied 1-1 with visiting Blair last Saturday, looking to extend their winning streak to four and get their first win in Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) play.
A frequent refrain on the sideline this spring for the Princeton Day School girls’ lacrosse team has been “wheels, wheels.”

Senior star Cammie Linville has been taking those words to heart, going into overdrive with her speed and tenacity as the Panthers have powered to a 7-0 start.
