As the Princeton University women’s basketball team has risen to the top of the Ivy League, star power has driven its ascent.
Players like Addie Micir, Lauren Edwards, Devona Allgood, and Niveen Rasheed have emerged as top players, with each garnering All-Ivy honors last winter as the Tigers went 26-3 overall and 14-0 in league play.
With Princeton hungry for a title encore this season, senior guard Krystal Hill knows that she isn’t destined for stardom and that’s alright with her.
Casey Rahn was enjoying his junior year with the University of Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team as the 2010 season headed into April.
The Minutemen started the month by beating Penn State to improve to 7-2 and rise to No. 9 in the national polls with former Princeton High star and longstick midfielder Rahn helping to spearhead the defense.
But hurt by some key injuries, Massachusetts stumbled down the stretch, losing four of its last five games as it fell short of making a second straight trip to the NCAA tournament.
Dean DiTosto is looking to squeeze everything he can out of his senior season with the Princeton High boys’ hockey team.
“I just want to do the best I can,” said star defenseman and co-captain DiTosto.
“This year it is a little different; it is more important. It is my last year and I don’t know how much more hockey I am going to play in my life later on. I am just trying to play the game and enjoy it as much as I can.”
Over his first three years on the Princeton Day School basketball team, Chris Bonnaig specialized in doing the dirty work.
The rugged guard has shown a knack for picking up a charge, getting a big steal or rebound, and playing tough defense.
But in the early stages of his senior campaign, Bonnaig is adding some offensive production to go with his intangibles.
Molly Rubin is a new face in the starting lineup for the Princeton Day School girls’ basketball team this season but she is no stranger to the program.
The junior guard starred for PDS as a freshman two seasons ago but then transferred to Hopewell Valley where she played well last winter.
Opting to come back to PDS, Rubin is picking up where she left off. “It was a little odd at first but they have been really welcoming,” said Rubin. “I am really enjoying it so far.”
