A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week: "What are your views on the new law making it illegal to use hand held cell phones while driving?"

"I support it. The only problem of course is that according to the AAA, it is not the question of hands off or hands on the phone it is the fact that you are talking which is the distraction. It is not necessarily the mechanism that you use to make the conversation that is the problem. From that point of view, I agree with it but I disagree with the fact that the police have to stop you for some other offense before they can ticket you for using a cell phone. I think the offense should be primary for using a cell phone."

Alan Hendry, Greenview Avenue

"I support this. It is very unsafe to drive while calling. Not only unsafe for the drivers themselves but it also poses dangers to other drivers on the road."

Judith Applegate, Quaker Road

"I think it misses the point. I really think that cell phones should be banned no matter where they are in the car because it is really the diversion of attention that matters in cell phone use."

Gita Wilder, Terhune Road

"I think it is a very good idea, yes I do."

Sharon Ma, Harvard Circle

"I think its generally beneficial, probably a step in the right direction but I'm not necessarily sure that it makes a difference."

Trevor Selby, McLean Street
