William Watson Stewart, 88, formerly of Princeton, died January 22 at home in Kensington, Md. after a long illness.
His college career at Princeton University was interrupted by service in the US Army Artillery in Italy in WWII. He was an air observer and later an operations officer during the occupation.
He worked for many years for the Home Life Insurance Company and then with Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company. After retiring, he was an independent Human Resources Consultant.
He loved singing and was a member of the first group of Princeton Nassoons. He was founder and first President of the Nassoon Alumni Association. With his best friend, Dick Sly, he founded and directed Spring Sing in 1957, an annual a cappella festival. He shepherded Spring Sing until he died.
As an organizer of many events, he was involved with five singing groups, including the Palmer Squares of Princeton. He was also a participant in neighborhood associations from Princeton to Detroit to Kensington, Md. He was especially devoted to the Kensington Historical Society where he founded and directed an outdoor summer concert series and helped preserve a lovely circle in the face of developers.
An active church member, he was an elder of the Nassau Presbyterian Church, Northminster Church in Troy, Mich., and then at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church.
He had an unbounded affection for every group he served: Princeton Class of ’45, many singing groups, the companies for which he worked, and the neighborhoods in which he lived.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary; his daughters, Sally Gilbert and Elizabeth Stewart; his sons, David and John Stewart; and 4 grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held on February 12 at 2 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church. All are welcome.

Edwin Brian Williams, 63, of Pennington, died January 30 in Hamilton.
Born and raised in the Princeton area, he was educated in the Princeton Public School System. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, and was employed by Castro GMC Truck Co. in Hopewell, as well as Purdy Builders in Hopewell.
He was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church in Hopewell where he served as a Trustee and a member of the Usher board. He was also a member of the Hit & Miss Rod and Gun Club in Princeton and a volunteer firefighter for Montgomery Township #2 Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed Go Cart Racing and collecting Scraps.
Predeceased by his parents, Minnie Jenkins and Cortland Williams; and his grandparents, Herbert and Ernestine Lee; he is survived by his former wife, Barbara Williams; two daughters, Nadea Williams and Paula Williams; four sisters, Shamah Masudi, Islah Rasul, Diane Stepney, and Holly Scott; and two grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on February 7 at Second Cavalry Baptist Church in Hopewell.
