According to a Township Police report, last week’s ice storm toppled 22 trees on February 2 between 5 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Nine large tree limbs fell on wires during the storm. The Princeton Fire Department responded to burning electrical wires. Two trees fell on cars causing damage. PSE&G responded to wide spread power outages.

Township Police have issued a traffic alert for Saturday, February 12, when the third annual Cupid’s Chase 5K Run will be held in the area of the Princeton Shopping Center. The race will begin at 10 a.m., and will necessitate the brief closure of North Harrison Street (northbound only), and the full closure of Bunn Drive for the duration of the race. A detour route will be in place for North Harrison Street. Terhune Road will also be closed at North Harrison Street. Motorists wishing to access areas off of Bunn Drive are advised to use McComb Road to get in and out of the area. Police Traffic control officers will be posted at the affected intersections. Motorists should anticipate delays in the area, as traffic is expected to be heavier than normal. Princeton Shopping Center will remain open during the event.

The Princeton Public Library’s Board of Trustees will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, February 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s second floor conference room.

Anne-Marie Gardner will speak on “Resolving Self-Determination Conflicts” at a breakfast at the Princeton United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 13 at 8 a.m. The author of Democratic Governance and Non-State Actors, Ms. Gardner is an associate research scholar at Princeton University’s Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination. Republicans interested in running for the Fourteenth and Fifteenth District Senate, and Assembly, County Executive, Sheriff, Surrogate, and three Freeholder seats that will be coming up in the coming November election are asked to submit a cover letter and resume via email to Acting Chair of the Mercer County Republican Committee Maria Bua at chair@mercergop.com. All letters must be received no later than February 21, and potential candidates will be asked to meet with the committee during the first week of March.

N.J. Unemployed, a group dedicated to helping the unemployed community in New Jersey by providing educational seminars and social events throughout the state, will hold a meeting to discuss the implications of pending legislation for the unemployed on Tuesday, February 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Princeton Public Library. Bills to be discussed will include, but are not limited to, “Back to Work N.J,” A-3584/S-2496 and A-3494/S-2498. Senator Anthony Bucco, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo, Assemblywoman Elease Evans and Senator Shirley Turner will be among the panelists, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. The Leagues of Women Voters of Lawrence Township, Hopewell Valley, Princeton area, and Hightstown-East Windsor will explore the redistricting and the shift in political power from the northeast part of the state to the central and south, at a forum on Tuesday, February 15, at 7 p.m. at Educational Testing Service, Chauncey Conference Center, 660 Rosedale Road. Speakers will include demographer Len Preston; author Benjamin Brickner; and Former Eagleton Institute New Jersey Project director Ingrid Reed.
