The Princeton Community Democratic Organization will hold a potluck supper and annual meeting this Sunday, January 20, at 6 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Center located behind Princeton Borough Hall. The dinner will be open to the public with organizers asking all attendees to bring a main dish, appetizer, or dessert to serve eight people. The PCDO will provide the bread and beverages. The dinner will be followed by PCDO’s annual meeting at 7 p.m. with the election of the executive board for 2008 by acclamation. That election will be followed by a presidential endorsement vote. Only PCDO members with dues paid as of January 6, 2008, will be eligible to vote. Votes will be cast after representatives of the presidential candidates have given four-minute statements supporting their choice. There is no proxy or absentee voting. Free tax assistance for seniors starts February 1 at The Princeton Senior Resource Center. The program is aimed toward low- and moderate-income older adults in the greater Princeton area who are filing uncomplicated personal returns. Trained volunteers from AARP will be available to prepare New Jersey State and Federal returns. Returns may be filed electronically. Tax assistance is available by appointment only at the following times and locations starting February 1: Fridays 9 a.m. to noon at the Suzanne Patterson Building, 45 Stockton Street, behind Borough Hall. Call PSRC at (609) 924-7108 for an appointment. Spruce Circle residents can make an appointment at their location for Mondays, February 11, March 10 or April 14, 12:30 to 4 p.m., by calling (609) 252-2362. Assistance at the Henry F. Pannell Learning Center will take place on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on a first-come basis. Spanish-speaking volunteers will be present to assist taxpayers. Participants are required to bring copies of their 2006 Federal and New Jersey tax returns, as well as all necessary 2007 tax information, including W-2 and 1099 income forms, property tax bill, and receipts for itemized deductions such as medical bills and charitable contributions.

Princeton Public Library will host a talk on alternative energy sources at its National Issues Forum on Thursday, January 17, at 7 p.m. The alternative energy approaches of the forum, “The Energy Problem: Choices for an Uncertain Future,” include the reduction of foreign energy dependence, finding alternatives to fossil fuels, and overall reduction in energy demand. The librarians who will moderate the forum have undergone training from National Issues Forums. More information on the NIF can be found at www.nifi.org. Planned Parenthood Association of the Mercer Area will observe the 35th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision with a “honk and wave” event at Princeton Borough’s Monument Park this Saturday, January 19, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Organizers are encouraging drivers and pedestrians to take part in the event. Planned Parenthood will hold a second Mercer County event simultaneously at the organization’s Hamilton Square Health Center on Route 33 in Hamilton, in the Golden Crest Corporate Center.
