Better water drainage in the Harry’s Brook neighborhood should result from the installation last week of six sections of concrete, with a single large opening, on Braeburn Drive. The new construction replaces the 50-year old corrugated culvert with two small openings that failed to contain floodwaters last summer. Construction Administrator Bob Killian reported that Braeburn Drive, which has been closed since August, will temporarily reopen “in three or four weeks.” Since cold weather precludes paving at this time, sidewalks and curbing will be installed in early spring.

The H1N1 vaccine is now widely available for Mercer County residents, according to the County Health Department and its partner, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. More than 2.5 million doses of H1N1 vaccine have been shipped to providers around the state. Segments of the population who are more susceptible to contracting the H1N1 virus than others include pregnant women or women who may become pregnant; household contacts and caregivers for children younger than six months of age; healthcare and emergency medical services personnel; all people from six months through 24 years of age; and persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza. The Junior League of Princeton is accepting applications for its 2009-12010 Community Grants Program. All grants are provided to help support non-profit organizations located in the Junior League’s service area of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset counties in New Jersey, which have a one-time need of goods or services for a specific program or purpose related to the League focus area of early childhood education and literacy. Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes will deliver his seventh annual State of the County address on January 21 at the annual “State of the County” networking session, luncheon, and address hosted by the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce. In his annual address, Mr. Hughes will discuss the general standing of Mercer County, its financial outlook for 2010 and beyond, and decisions that must be made to reflect the changing economy. The event will be held at Cedar Gardens reception hall located at 661 Route 33 in Hamilton. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon at noon.
