Registration for Princeton children entering kindergarten in September 2009 is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, February 18, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Thursday, February 19, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Community Park, Johnson Park, Littlebrook, or Riverside School, according to each family’s school-attendance area. It is not necessary to bring the child to registration. To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must reach five years of age on or before September 30. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate and medical records, particularly immunization records. By State law, students must have the following immunizations to be admitted: DPT, four doses; oral polio, three doses; MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) two doses; and hepatitis B, three doses. Princeton residency must be established, and parents/guardians should bring a deed, mortgage, rental or lease agreement, property tax bill, or utility bill as documentation of residence. Parents/guardians who are not fluent in English may bring a friend or relative to interpret. Spanish-speaking parents should register at Community Park School, where an interpreter will be available. Parents/guardians are also encouraged to inform school personnel of any condition which may affect educational planning for their child. Registration for The Alchemist & Barrister’s annual Longbeard Contest will take place from February 1 through 3. Participants, who should be clean-shaven at the time of registration, are asked to sign up at the bar in the restaurant, and pay an entry fee $25. The Longbeard Champion — along with those sporting the shortest, the ugliest, and the grayest beards — will be named at 7 p.m. on March 17. Since its inception in 1980, the contest has raised nearly $150,000, supporting both local and national agencies including HiTOPS, Big Brothers and Sisters of Mercer County, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and The Arts Council of Princeton.
