At the request of the Princeton International Academy Charter School (PIACS), the Plainsboro Zoning and Adjustment Board has rescheduled a meeting to discuss the school’s request for a variance so that it can occupy quarters at St. Joseph’s Seminary. The new meeting date of September 1 comes in the wake of a Department of Education decision to give PIACS an additional planning year to allow for possible opening of the Mandarin-immersion school in September 2011.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be in Mercer County conducting the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from now through September 23, and Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes has encouraged the approximately 400 area residents who have been selected, to participate in this “essential survey of our nation’s health and nutrition status.” Residents were chosen to participate on a random basis. “If NHANES staff contacts you, please keep in mind you may be selected to participate in a survey that not only combines the valuable statistics you provide with information collected around the country, but also informs you about your own health and health risks,” said Mr. Hughes. The Trenton Museum Society, in cooperation with Trenton Central High School, is preparing an exhibition for October 2010 about the history of the city’s high schools and is looking for artifacts and memorabilia to include in the exhibit. Graduates of Trenton High and descendants of graduates are invited to loan any high school memorabilia they may have to the exhibit by bringing them to the Trenton City Museum in Cadwalader Park on Saturday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, or on Sunday, September 12, from noon to 3 p.m. For more information call (609) 989-1191 or e-mail tms@ellarslie.org.  

Princeton Charter School Head Broderick Boxley has stepped down after leading the school for two years. He reportedly asked to resign for personal reasons, but will continue to work with the school on an as-needed basis over the next year while the school conducts a search for a new head. The target date of hiring someone is no later than July 2011. In the meantime, the Kindergarten through eighth grade school on Bunn Drive will be jointly run by Assistant School Head Norma Byers, Upper School Head Larry Patton, and Lower School Head Gail Wilbur.

“We the People,” a group of Princeton homeowners concerned about the results of the 2010 property revaluation process, has invited Mayor/Council from both municipalities and the community to meet on Monday July 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Princeton Township Municipal Building.
