David Andrew Greenspan, N.D., 46, died near Portland, Oregon on March 13.
Born in Princeton, he was a graduate of Princeton High School and graduated with honors from Pennsylvania State University where he received a Bachelor Science in Cell and Molecular Biology. He then enrolled in the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Ore., where he received his Naturopathic Doctorate with honors.
Dr. Greenspan practiced at the Greenspan Good Health Center in Tigard, Ore. In addition, he served for two terms as the President of the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and was a member of the Board of Directors of NCNM.
In his recent years, Dr. Greenspan shared his enthusiasm for and his knowledge of the benefits of natural medicine by hosting a community access TV show, “Nature’s Way.”
Dr. Greenspan is survived by his children, Kyle and Abby; his former partner, Kellie Barnes; his mother, Barbara Jenkinson; his stepmother, Roslyn Greenspan; his sisters Julie Sackett, Sylvia Clark, and Joanna Greenspan; and his brother Jeff Shulman.
A fund has been established at the National College of Natural Medicine in David’s memory, honoring his dedication to children’s health. Checks can be made out to NCNM (in memory of David A. Greenspan) and mailed to Susan Kay Hunter, MBA, Vice President of Advancement, National College of Natural Medicine, 049 SW Porter, Portland, Ore., 97201. Mina Bluethenthal Kempton, 91, of Montgomery Township, died July 21 at her family’s summer home on Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
Mrs. Kempton grew up in Wilmington, N.C. and attended Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. She was a social worker and active in local community affairs. She was also a Democratic county committee woman.
She was known for her keen friendships and interest in the arts. Mrs. Kempton had a lifelong personal commitment to social justice. She was married to Murray Kempton, a noted journalist, for many years.
Mrs. Kempton is survived by her brother, Arthur Bluethenthal of Greensboro, N.C.; her three children, Sally, of Carmel, Calif., Arthur, of Chapel Hill, N.C., and David, of Humboldt County, Calif.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation took place in North Carolina.
