LEAGUE LEADER: Robin Harris has gotten off to a positive start in her first year as the Executive Director of the Council of Ivy Group Presidents, following Jeff Orleans in the post as league commissioner. Harris passion for sports and her previous experience as an NCAA administrator and collegiate sports attorney has made her a good fit for the position. |
Robin Harris attended most of mens basketball home games during her college and law school years at Duke University but she wasnt a Cameron Crazy who painted her face blue or camped out overnight to get the best tickets.
The Bronx native, however, was crazy about sports long before she headed south to Durham.
I had a huge sports interest; I am a big sports fan, said Harris. I was born in the Bronx in the shadows of Yankee Stadium and grew up as a Yankee fan. I have always enjoyed watching sports.
As a lacrosse star at the Hun School, Addie Godfrey shredded opposing defenses at will.
In her senior year with the Raiders in 2009, the elusive, skilled Godfrey scored 85 points on 52 goals and 33 assists to help Hun go 11-5.
Godfreys athleticism and production caught the eye of many college lax programs and she ended up heading to the Lafayette College team.
Sarah Wright was frustrated in the spring of 2008 as she filled a reserve role in her freshman season with the Susquehanna University (Pa.) womens lacrosse team.
After being a go-to player for most of her career with the Princeton High squad, Wright was not accustomed to riding the pines.
I thought I should have gotten in more, said Wright, who had six points in 11 appearances as a freshman for the Division III Crusaders. We had a lot of seniors who were amazing so I think the coach was nervous to put me in there.
Trailing powerful Sunnybrae 7-2 in the second inning last Saturday in the District 12 championship game, the Princeton 11-year-old all star team could have gotten discouraged.
Instead, Princeton battled back, scoring a run in the top of the third and then tacking on two more in the fourth on RBI hits by Aaron Lichtblau and Tim Frawley.
After yielding two runs in the bottom of the fifth to fall behind 9-5, Princeton was not about to go down meekly in its last at-bat. With Thomas Itkoff, Colin Taylor, and Frawley getting singles, Princeton loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth. The rally stalled, however, and Sunnybrae held on for a 9-5 triumph.
Al Jerido wasnt happy as his Princeton Sports Bar and Grill team started sluggishly last Monday in the quarterfinals of the Princeton Recreation Department Mens Summer League playoffs.
The third-seeded Princeton Sports Bar and Grill squad misfired and barked at the refs as it led by just 19-17 over No. 6 SMB at intermission at the Community Park courts.
As the second half started, Jerido decided to set the tone by racheting up the intensity. In the opening moments of the period, the point guard made a steal and converted it into a lay-up and then chucked a full-court pass to assist on an Evan Johnson bucket.
