Murder Suspect Arrested in Canada; Victim Found Here

The Maryland man wanted on a second-degree murder warrant in connection with the disappearance of 37-year old Devon Andrea Baker whose body was found on Sunday in Princeton Township, has been taken into custody without incident after Canadian authorities located him on Tuesday at a Days Inn in Niagara Falls.

Ms. Devon’s body was found eight days after she disappeared from her Lexington Park, Maryland home. She had, apparently, been murdered and dumped under a bridge near the Princeton Country Club. As soon as Princeton authorities informed them of the find, law officers in Maryland executed search warrants for 48-year old Benjamin Moore, and the St. Mary’s County Maryland Criminal Investigations Bureau issued a felony warrant charging him with second-degree murder.

The latest press release issued by St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations reported that Mr. Moore’s arrest was the result of collaboration between detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the United States Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force, Maryland State Police, the St. Mary’s County States Attorney’s Office, and Canadian authorities. Mr. Moore is currently being held in Canada pending extradition proceedings.

Although The Princeton Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the case jointly with St. Mary’s County, both Township Police and Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Casey DeBlasio said that since the murder warrant had been issued by Maryland, they were “not in a position to answer additional questions regarding the incident as it pertains to our area.”

Mercer County Medical Examiner Dr. Raafat Ahmad completed the autopsy of Devon Andrea Baker on Tuesday afternoon. The body showed no obvious signs of traumatic injury. Both the cause and manner of death are pending additional investigation.
