Richard Walsh Bell, 85, of Holland, Pa., formerly of Princeton, died May 21, surrounded by his family.
A Princeton native, he and his wife Laura raised their family in Montgomery Township before moving to Newtown, Pa. in 1987.
He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union No. 9.
He served during World War II in the United States Army, 11th Armored Infantry Division, and was awarded the Purple Heart from the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Bell served a term on the Montgomery Township Committee and was Mayor in 1963. He was a member of Princeton Masonic Lodge No. 38.
Mr. and Mrs. Bell were members of the Princeton Social Club, where they built many friendships. He was a communicant of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and previously Trinity Church in Princeton.
Mr. Bell and his family enjoyed many summers at their home on Long Beach Island. In recent years, he devoted himself to caring for his wife, and enjoyed his free time with his friends at the Saloon in Newtown.
Predeceased by a grandson, Peter Bruce Warren, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura Neil Bell; his four children, Marcia Bell of Plainsboro, Thomas Bell of Plainfield, David Bell of Princeton, and Elizabeth Bell Warren of Newtown; and four grandchildren. He was especially thankful for the friendship of his sister-in-law, Helen Perrine of Pennington, and for the caregivers at Twining Village in Holland, Pa.
The funeral was May 26 at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Curtin presiding.

Norma Gene Penick, 88, of Princeton and Naples, Florida, died May 25 at the University Medical Center at Princeton.
Born in Noble, Oklahoma, the daughter of Claude and Virginia Scott, Jean, as she was known all her life, was one of five children. When she was 12 years old, her family moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where she became active in sports and took the lead in her senior class play.
She graduated from Norman High School in 1940 and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma for three years, where her interest in music resulted in her being the vocal soloist in the Boomers Dance Band. The band’s musical director and pianist, Joe E. Penick, became her future husband. They were married in October 1942.
The couple first lived in Dallas, Texas, where Mr. Penick worked in a wartime petroleum fuel program while Mrs. Penick worked as a fashion model for Sanger Brothers Department Store. In subsequent years, Mrs. Penick set up households in nine different locations across the country as her husband achieved new responsibilities during his career with Mobil Oil Corporation. She formed many enduring friendships over the years while moving from place to place, staying in touch with people throughout her lifetime.
She enjoyed creating beautiful homes, organizing dinners and parties for social and business occasions, and participating in corporate events in the U.S. and abroad. Although travel to far-flung destinations was an exciting part of her life, her most important role was being at home with her family.
Her interests included music, golf, gardening, travel, and flower arranging. As a member of the Mt. Kisco Country Club she was the ladies’ 9-hole golf champion for several years. She was a member of the Princeton Chapter of P.E.O., the Nassau Club, The Bedens Brook Club, and Springdale Golf Club.
Most recently, Mrs. Penick and her husband enjoyed their retirement with homes in Princeton and Naples, Fla.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Joe Edward Penick Jr. of West Chester, Pa. and David Penick of New York City and Princeton; and two granddaughters.
The funeral service will be today, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau Street. Visiting hours will precede the service starting at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Princeton Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home.
