The first annual N.J. Statewide Ovarian Cancer Symposium will be held on Saturday June 12, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton. The event is free and open to fund-raising organizations and foundations, ovarian cancer survivors, advocates, members of the medical community, and members of the N.J. County Cancer Coalition. Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecological cancers in the United States, with over 22,000 women diagnosed annually and 15,000 losing their lives to the disease. The Princeton Farmers Market will open on Thursday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at a new location: Hinds Plaza next to the Princeton Public Library on Witherspoon Street. There will be a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from Cherry Grove Organic Farm, J & L Farms, Terhune Orchards, and Fruitwood Orchards; various raw milk cheeses and eggs from both the Cherry Grove Farm and the Valley Shepherd Creamery; fresh flowers from Longview Flowers; miniature pies, pastries, and shortbreads from Jen’s Lillipies and Simply Nic’s; local honey and beeswax products from the Tassot Apiaries; Tico’s Juices using fresh and local ingredients; Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms; breads and pastries from Witherspoon Bread; and Whole Earth Center’s selection of recipes using their whole grains and the fresh foods. There will also be chef’s tasting samples prepared by Nassau Street Seafood. The library will be selling “books by the pound” on a wide range of subjects, including books connected to healthy living. Future visiting organizations include Sustainable Princeton, D & R Greenway Land Trust selling their native species plants, Rutgers University Gardens, Garden State Home, Isles, Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed, Boys and Girls Club Bike Exchange, and the Princeton Schools Gardens Coop. The market will be held every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, throughout the summer and fall until October 28. Participating Panera Bread locations are collecting donations at their registers during the month of June to fight hunger and poverty in the greater Mercer County area. Customers can simply add a dollar or two to their receipt and the contributions will go directly to the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.
