$10 Million Endowment in 2010 the Goal as Library Looks to Celebrate Centenary

Ellen Gilbert

When the Princeton Public Library marks its centenary in 2010, one of the many things it looks forward to celebrating is a $10 million endowment.

At last week’s Board of Trustees meeting, it was noted that gifts of all sizes are welcome, and that interested donors can now make their contributions or download a donation form at the library’s website (go to www.princeton.lib.nj.us and click on “Support the Library”). Gifts to the library can be made in honor of friends, family members, teachers, or events.

Technology initiatives librarian Romina Gutierrez brought board members’ attention to an under-utilized treasure trove currently available at the library: its “gadget garage” of devices that library customers are welcome to examine and try out in the Tech Center, before committing themselves to costly purchases.

The growing list of items that may be requested through Reference Desk technology assistants includes a Canon digital camera with 4X optical zoom; a Canon Powershot digital camera with 3X optical zoom; a Canon MiniDV camcorder with 18X optical zoom; a Nikon Coolpix digital camera with 3X optical zoom; a professional Logitech USB PC microphone; an Apple iPod handheld MP3 player; a portable Panasonic CD player; a pocket PC; Apple pro speakers; and a Monster ultra-high capacity rapid battery charger. These items are intended for in-library use only and are not available for check out.

Unless an emergency arises, the Board will not meet during July and August; its next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22.

For additional information about gifts to the library, contact Development Office Director Lindsey Forden at (609) 924-8822 ext. 251.
