The Princeton Borough and Township Republican Committees are seeking local Republicans who are interested in running as municipal candidates in the June 7 primary election. The deadline for filing for the primary election is April 11. In the Borough, the Mayor’s position and two Council seats will be on the ballot, while the Township will have two Committee seats up for election. For more information, potential Township candidates should contact Princeton Township Republican Committee Chair Esther Mills at (609) 306-5280. The Princeton Regional Schools’ Special Education PTO will hold an Education Symposium on Saturday, March 12, from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the John Witherspoon Middle School. Free workshops will include “Social Learning at Princeton Regional Schools,” “Tips for Trips and Camps,” and ‘Instructional Strategies for Parents of Diverse Learners.” Participants are welcome to attend one or more workshop. Advance registration is not required, but those who need a translator are asked to call (609) 806-4206, ext. 4, in advance. For further information on the symposium, call (609) 921-0768. 

The Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) will mark the anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq with a regional rally in Palmer Square on Saturday, March 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.  In case of rain, the rally will be moved inside to the Assembly Room of Nassau Presbyterian Church. 

In addition to CFPA Executive Director Bob Moore, confirmed speakers at the rally include fifth-generation combat veteran Jesse Hamilton; former CIA analyst and author of Long Strange Journey: An Intelligence Memoir, Patrick G. Eddington; Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church Rev. Muriel Burrows; Century Foundation Senior Fellow and Director of Foreign Policy Programs Jeffrey Laurenti; Southeastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Peace Action Coordinator Bill Deckhart; and songwriter/performer Shaleen Leahey.

Mark the date: this year’s Communiversity Festival of the Arts will be held on Saturday, April 30, from noon to 5 p.m. Presented by the Arts Council of Princeton and the students of Princeton University, the town-gown event will feature more than 200 artists, crafters, and merchants; continuous live entertainment on five stages; children’s activities and games; a wide array of food from around the globe; and a broad representation of Princeton businesses and organizations. Communiversity Festival of the Arts takes place in downtown Princeton on Nassau and Witherspoon Streets, in Palmer Square (on the Green), and throughout the University campus. Public parking will be available in lots and garages located on Chambers Street, Hulfish Street (next to Halo Pub), and Spring Street. Additional parking can be found on side streets throughout the town.
