Delia Henderson Mark, 82, died March 10 at Evergreen Woods in North Branford.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., on March 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Henderson and Virginia Ferguson. She was raised in Richmond, Va., and Lynchburg, Va., and attended St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, Va. Upon graduation from Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg, she moved north to attend Columbia University School of Nursing in New York City. After receiving her BS there in 1952, she taught at the University and worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
She married and moved to Massachusetts, living in the Boston area for several years with her family before moving to Princeton where she resided for 36 years. She was the school nurse at Stuart Country Day for 22 years before retiring in 2000 and moving to Evergreen Woods.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend to many, her grandchildren were her pride and joy. The students whom she cared for while a school nurse were also very special to her.
She volunteered her time to local organizations while living in Princeton, and enjoyed a variety of interests such as gardening, traveling worldwide, library work, and her beloved pets. While living at Evergreen Woods she was involved in many aspects of residential life, including committee membership and participation in the many activities offered. She was an active member of Emmanuel Church in Killingworth and participated in the life of the church there.
Wife of the late Peter Mark, she is survived by her daughter, Catherine Burdge, and two grandchildren.
A funeral service took place on March 14 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Killingworth, followed by burial at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Forest, Va.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Evergreen Woods Employee Scholarship Fund, 88 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, Conn. 06471.
Arrangements are under the direction of The Swan Funeral Home, Madison.
Lucy Pesce, 81, of Princeton, died February 26 at the University Medical Center of Princeton.
Born in Ischia, Italy, she immigrated to Princeton in 1947.
She retired in 2007 with over 40 years of service as a teacher’s aid with Princeton Regional Schools where she devoted her time and energy with young children. She was also a professional seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her family and friends.
A member of St. Paul’s Church in Princeton, she adored children, loved the beach, sunshine, being outdoors, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She avidly traveled to Ischia with her husband and other family members. Her magnetic personality attracted friends wherever she went.
Daughter of the late Michael and Maria (Scotto Di Minico) Cuomo; and wife of the late John J. Pesce Sr.; she is survived by her son, John J. Pesce Jr; two daughters, Mary Lynn Rossi and Nancy Massari; her sister, Catherine Sasso; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, March 2 at the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul’s Church, 214 Nassau Street, Princeton. Burial will followed in Princeton Cemetery.
A Memorial Service for William A Schreyer, 83, who died on January 22, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 8 at Princeton University Chapel. Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington and Newark, will preside over a celebratory Mass.
Immediately following the service, a reception hosted by the family will be held at 800 Scudders Mill Road, Plainsboro, N.J. All friends, relatives and admirers are welcome. Those planning to attend the service and/or the reception are asked to RSVP to WASBullish@yahoo.com.
