For the first time in its history, the 79th Annual Bryn Mawr Wellesley Book Sale’s paid preview, today, Wednesday, March 24, is being extended until the 6 p.m. closing. In the past, previews ran from 10 to 2 p.m, with free admission afterward. Places in line for the 10 a.m. opening have been determined by lottery. Admission to the preview is $20. Preview sale admissions tickets corresponding to the numbers determined by the lottery will be issued beginning at 9 a.m. Additional preview tickets will be sold at the door after 9 a.m.
From Thursday on, the sale is free. Hours are Thursday, March 25, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, March 26, hours are the same, but books will be half-price to seniors and children (with a 10-book limit per customer). From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday is half-price day for everyone. Sunday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is box day, otherwise known as Book Lovers Go Wild Day.
An added feature this year will give 10 book fiends 45 minutes to roam the sale picking out as many books as they can cart away at no charge. To qualify for the selection process, visitors to the sale need only fill out and deposit a survey form that can be picked up at the sale. These are limited to one form per customer. Collector’s Corner
The self-contained space occupied by Collector’s Corner will be open from 11 to 6 on Wednesday, 10 to 9 Thursday and Friday. Prices on many items will be reduced on Saturday, March 27, between 10 and 3. Collector’s Corner will be closed on Sunday.
Some features this year include a large collection of Heritage Press Books; Cherokee Language Instruction Books; over 1,000 comic books preserved in Mylar bags; The Book of the Record of the Time Capsule of Cupal; Poems by Emily Dickinson, Second Series, a first edition from 1892; The Adventures of Mickey Mouse Book number 2; three Children’s Books by Paul Brown, each with a signed drawing by the author; A Classical and Topographical Tour Through Greece by Edward Dodwell; and a number of art books that previously would have been displayed as part of the sale proper.
All proceeds go to fund scholarships for Bryn Mawr and Wellesley students.
