An advisory wing of the Regional Planning Board of Princeton last Wednesday signed off on a plan to convert the old Stefanelli's Automotive at the corner of Leigh Avenue and Bayard Lane into an upscale, 78-seat restaurant, tentatively called Elements. The restaurant plan includes some of the same principals for the Bank of Princeton project, which, pending Township Zoning Board approval May 23, will be housed one block away at the corner of Bayard and Birch Avenue in the old Mike's Tavern building. Restaurant proprietors hope to use the bank parking area during the hours when the bank is closed for restaurant parking. The two applications, however, were filed separately with the Township's planning department. The restaurant proposal includes the relocation of an existing, two-family house behind Mike's Tavern, to a vacant lot behind Stefanelli's. The house, also owned by the restaurant's managing partner, JAT Holdings, LLC, would provide a buffer between the restaurant, located in the Township's S-2 zone, and the Township's R-9 residential zone that lies directly to the east, according to JAT principal Stephen Distler. The Township Zoning Board of Adjustment will address the Elements proposal at a final hearing on June 13. (MH)
David Sarnoff Library officials announced this week that the library had received $50,000 in donations following an appeal after the flooding from last month's nor'easter damaged its archival RCA collection. Approximately 95 percent of the library's material has been recovered and the boxed collection is expected at the library next week for storage in an elevated location provided by Sarnoff Corporation. The library will post a full donors list at www.davidsarnoff.org/flood.html.
The Local Concerns Committee of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization will hold a panel discussion this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Senior Center behind Princeton Borough Hall. Panelists will include representatives of Princeton agencies involved in youth-oriented programs and are expected to share information about current programs as well as answer questions about future plans, including facility changes and future collaborations between agencies. The Local Concerns Committee met with 15 agencies in April to begin the planning for the meeting. The discussion will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Senior Center behind Princeton Borough Hall. For more information, visit www.princetondems.org.
