SORE POINT: Princeton University senior attacker Peter Trombino, left, finds the going tough in a recent game. Trombino scored two goals and had two assists last Sunday as Princeton fell 9-8 at Georgetown in overtime in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Trombino finished his Tiger career with 98 goals and 54 assists, ranking him in eighth-place in career goals and 11th all-time in points scored at Princeton. |
The Princeton University men's lacrosse team had the fate of its season in its hands in the waning moments of the fourth quarter of its NCAA opening round clash at sixth-seeded Georgetown last Sunday.
With the see-saw contest knotted at 8-8, Princeton had possession in the last minute and held the ball for what it hoped would be the last and decisive shot of the game.
When the Princeton University women's basketball team started its 2002-03 season by falling 86-47 at Baylor University, the Tigers chalked up the loss as a good learning experience.
But that trip to Waco, Texas set in motion a chain of events that led to Princeton head coach Richard Barron ending up in Baylor last week as the program's new associate head coach.
Jen Larsen felt like a bit of an outsider last spring when the Stuart Country Day lacrosse team won its second straight state Prep B title.
The transfer from Lawrenceville School spent most of the season playing for the JV team, moving up to the varsity for the playoffs.
Determined to have a greater role this spring in her senior campaign, Larsen toiled diligently over the off-season to improve her conditioning and stick skills.
Coming into the Mercer County Tournament last Wednesday, the Princeton High boys' golf team knew it didn't have much of a margin for error if it was going to regain the team title.
PHS had its sights firmly set on defending champion WW/P-S, who had edged the Little Tigers by one stroke in a dual match earlier this spring.
Andrew Baxter suffered a setback in his final spring with the Hun School baseball team as he was conked on the head at a practice by a throw from star pitcher Mike Russo.
The gritty shortstop suffered a concussion as a result, sidelining him for three games in early season action.
Since returning to the lineup, Baxter has been causing headaches for Hun's foes as he been a sparkplug for the Raiders' powerful offense and has logged some key innings on the mound.
Last Thursday, Baxter was at his pesky best, banging out two hits as Hun routed crosstown rival Princeton Day School 10-1 in the quarterfinals of the Mercer County Tournament.
