Michael Nicholas Hnath, 96, of Clifton, died on November 1, 2009 at his home in the Allwood Section. Born in Czechoslovakia, Mr. Hnath came to the United States as a young teenager alone with his brother, John. He first settled in Passaic before moving to Garfield in 1945 after returning from his tour of duty with the U.S. Army. Mr. Hnath earned the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and a Victory Medal along with his Honorable Discharge. He was a member of the Athenia Veterans in Clifton. He built his home in Clifton in 1950 and with his wife, Ann, daughter, Marcy and extended family he remained there until his passing.
Max or Maxie as he was known to family and friends was employed at Manhattan Rubber Co. in Clifton as a rubberizer for most of his life.
His proudest achievement was his grandson, Michael Nicholas Maguire. Michael Hnath enjoyed watching his grandson grow up, being a part of his life and knowing his friends.
Mr. Hnath was a parishioner of Ss. Peter and Paul R.O. Cathedral in Passaic where he served as a trustee and an usher. He will be remembered as a good-hearted friend and neighbor. The family of Michael Hnath would like to thank Margarita, Lianne, Halinka, Nellie and June for their devoted and heartfelt care of their husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include: his devoted wife, Ann (nee Bacha); his beloved daughter, Marcy H. Maguire and her husband, Robert J. Maguire of Princeton, New Jersey; his loving grandson, Michael Nicholas Maguire; and one step-brother, John Marcisin of Connecticut.
He was predeceased by his brother, John Hnath and a half-brother, Michael Marcisin.
Funeral services will be this Wednesday, November 4th, 11:15am at Ss. Peter & Paul R.O. Cathedral (www.sspproc.org), 200 Third Street, Passaic, Please meet at church. Interment to follow at Ss. Peter & Paul R.O. Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Visiting will be Tuesday at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm. A Parastas service will be held at 6:45 pm to conclude the visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Ss. Peter & Paul R.O. Cathedral, 200 Third Street, Passaic, NJ 07055. Christina Freeman Tibbals, 89, of Skillman, died October 27 at the University Medical Center at Princeton.
Born in Winnetka, Ill. to Mr. and Mrs. John Edgar Freeman, she was educated at Northshore Country Day School and Wellesley College.
She was a member of the Present Day Club, Princeton Skating Club, and Pretty Brook Tennis Club, and a volunteer for Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Tibbals; a daughter, Roxana of South Natick, Mass.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
