The Princeton Environmental Commission (PEC) has postponed its third annual Green Home and Garden Tour until the spring of 2010.

Pennington Market will be the site for the next Yes We CAN! food drive. Volunteers from the group, which is dedicated to alleviating hunger, will be outside the store on Saturday, November 7 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., collecting canned and boxed food, as well as fresh produce, to refill the pantries of The Crisis Ministry. To date, shoppers at area supermarkets have donated 33.8 tons of food.

The Princeton Family YMCA will host its annual Conquer the 5K(s) Road Race and Fun Run on Saturday, November 7, at 10 a.m. on the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Campus located off Rosedale Road in Lawrence. Sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb, the annual event is dedicated to raising awareness about the five killers or “Ks” that lead to heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, and stress. Early registration (until November 5) is $17 per runner; the cost will be $22 per runner on the day of the race, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Prize money will be awarded to the top three males and females entered in the race; plaques will be presented to winners in designated age groups. Children’s activities will be offered during the run, as well as a One S-mile Fun Run and Mature Mile for non-racers following the road race. Proceeds from the Conquer the 5K(s) race will benefit YMCA programs and activities dedicated to the elimination of heart disease, such as group exercise classes, upgrading equipment, and providing support and expertise from staff to help individuals of all abilities achieve their personal fitness goals. Howell Farm’s 2009 Schoolhouse Maze schedule has been extended because of a spate of rainy weekends. The Maze will be open Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, November 8, from noon to 4 p.m.; Friday, November 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, November 14, from to noon to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, November 15, noon to 4 p.m. During a special program on November 7, maze-goers will hear wildlife presentations by the Mercer County Wildlife Center, which will receive corn harvested from the maze to feed orphaned and injured wildlife. Special presentations that day are at noon and 2 p.m. Admission is $8 for ages 13 and older; $6 for children ages 5-12; and free for children 4 and under.
