William S. Borden Jr.

William S. Borden Jr., 82, of Princeton, died September 29 at the University Medical Center at Princeton.

He lived in Titusville from 1948 to 1982 before moving to Ewing and then Princeton.

Born and raised in Trenton, he graduated from Trenton High School, the Blair Academy, and cum laude from Princeton University.

He served as an artillery captain in the Seventh Army in France and Austria during World War II and received the Bronze Star Medal for valor.

He joined the W.S. Borden Company and became a certified property and life casualty underwriter and president of the firm in 1968. He later founded the W.S. Borden Real Estate Company and became a senior residential appraiser.

He taught insurance at both Rutgers University and Rider University. He also worked for the State of New Jersey as review appraiser in the Farmland Preservation Program until his retirement in 2002.

He was involved in many civic activities, serving as president of the Trenton Lions Club, chairman of the Young Republican Club, and metropolitan division chairman of the Delaware Valley United Fund. He was also an officer of the Trenton Chamber of Commerce, auxiliary board member of the Union Industrial Home, and longtime member of the Trenton Club.

He was a devoted member of the Princeton class of 1945 and an avid art collector. His passion was snow skiing, which he pursed with vigor until the age of 81.

Son of the late Lida Scheidnagel Borden and William S. Borden Sr., he was also predeceased by a brother, Walter. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mentus Borden; a son, William S. III of Harbourton; a sister, Barbara Borden Floyd of Cherry Hill; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Princeton University Chapel on October 9.

David C. Oakley

David Charles Oakley, 49, of Rocky Hill, died suddenly on October 8.

Born in Princeton, he was the second child of the late Charles B. and Patricia Van Dorn Oakley. After graduating from Princeton High School in 1972, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he served as a Radioman Second Class in New York and Alaska. Following his honorable discharge in 1977, he returned to Princeton.

In the late 1970s, he worked as a wine buyer for Community Liquors in Princeton. He began his career in information technology at DeskTop Software. He developed software systems for Thomas Edison College before moving to Wang Laboratories. In the late 1980s, he and his wife founded Oakley Systems, Inc. In 1994, he joined Merrill Lynch, where he became a vice president in IT systems.

He was a member of the American Radio Relay League and held an Extra Class Amateur Radio License. A history buff and car enthusiast, he also enjoyed swimming and sailing. He played numerous musical instruments, including tuba, trombone, guitar, and piano. Dubbed "Diamond Dave" by his late father-in-law, Edward Fischer, he was a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Fischer Oakley; two children, Benjamin and Rachel; a sister, Elaine Caine; and a brother, Robert of Maine.

A memorial service led by the Rev. Hazel Staats-Westover was held on October 11. Burial was in Princeton Cemetery.

Richard M. Pennington

Richard Maier Pennington, 78, of Pennington, died October 10 at Chandler Hall, Newtown, Pa.

Born in Philadelphia, he lived in the Philadelphia area until he moved to New Jersey in 1970.

He served in the United States Army in 1944-45 and later graduated from Haverford College, Haverford, Pa, and the Temple University School of Law.

He retired in 1992 from the Atlantic Companies in Madison, where he was a senior vice president for claims and risk services. From 1953 to 1977 he worked for the Insurance Company of North America.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Pennington, and a member of the Nassau Club in Princeton.

Son of the late Mildred and Richard Pennington, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Eleanor Diederich Pennington; two daughters, Elizabeth Cowie of Palo Alto, Calif., and Catherine Fishel of Timonium, Md.; a brother, David of Wynnewood, Pa.; a sister, Patricia Pennington of Philadelphia; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Pennington with the Rev. John Belmont and the Rev. Emily Griffin co-officiating. Burial will be private.

Francis F. Pietrinferno Jr.

Francis "Frank" F. Pietrinferno Jr., 62, of Hamilton Square, died October 7 at home after a long battle with leukemia, with his family by his side.

Born in Princeton, he was a resident of West Windsor before his recent move to Hamilton Square.

A graduate of Princeton High School, he was the self-employed manager of the Hub at Princeton North Developmental Center for 27 years.

He was a member of the Delaware Valley Woodcarvers Association. In his retirement, one of his passions was woodcarving, and he enjoyed giving his work as gifts to everyone who was special in his life.

Son of the late Francis F. Pietrinferno Sr., he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Blyman Pietrinferno; his mother, Gertrude Heft Pietrinferno; two daughters, Deb Lynch of Edgewater Park and Renee Braun of Cayce, S.C.; a son, Frank III of Washington Township; a brother, Jim Firestone of Princeton; and five grandchildren.

The funeral service was October 10 at the Saul Colonial Home in Hamilton Square. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Nicolina M. Stimpson

Nicolina M. Stimpson, 64, of Pennington, died in Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, on October 8.

Born in in Albany, N.Y., she had been a Princeton resident for 14 years before moving to Pennington.

She was a former manager of the Reports Department of Coopers & Lybrand in Albany, and more recently the executive secretary of the Trust Department of MetLife in Somerville.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Church of Pennington.

Daughter of the late Paul Curro and Olga Barbutti, she is survived by her husband, the Rev. Peter K. Stimpson; four sons, Michael Sheedy of Rensselaer, N.Y., Paul Sheedy of Colonie, N.Y., James Sheedy of Rotterdam, N.Y., and Joseph Sheedy of Schenectady, N.Y.; a daughter, Sandra Sheedy of Guilderland, N.Y.; a brother, Dominic Curro of Albany; and nine grandchildren.

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 13 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 300 South Main Street, Pennington, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. John Belmont and the Rev. Emily Griffin co-officiating. Interment will be in Pennington Cemetery.
