A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week: "How do you think the candidates performed during the Presidential debates?"

"My opinion is that they ducked all of the hard questions like, where was the money going to come from? If there was an opportunity to not answer the question they moved it off and it never got batted back. I come from a country where that is not acceptable. In the UK they will keep going on at each other until they get it right. It's not really a debate. It's more of a presentation and as such, it is very hard to judge. Kerry was composed and kept it on point better than I've seen many politicians for some time. The process is interesting. The main point is what you expect as an outcome. If you expect them to have a knock down-drag out discussion, it never quite gets there."

– Mary Waltham, Springdale Road

"I have one issue to go to: when they start attacking someone else's daughter and using cheap shots. It's done to avoid the real issues. That's somebody else's daughter so leave it out of it."

– Mary Smarsh, Witherspoon Street

"I thought that they did not perform particularly well. I didn't like everybody being sort of angry so I turned them off."

– Margery Claghorn, Constitution Hill

"First of all I don't think that they are truly debates and I wish that they were. I think that's a disadvantage. I think Kerry came out head and shoulders above our president on every debate in varying degrees and he did very well in the final one."

– Roz Denard, Jefferson Road

"I think John Kerry performed very well. He showed that he has what it takes to be commander-in-chief. I wasn't so sure about our president. He seemed to prove he really doesn't think through many issues which is important for our world."

– Jeremy Moberg-Sarver, Franklin Street
