Sustainable Princeton will host its workshop, “Toward a Greener Future,” tonight, October 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Princeton High School cafeteria. The workshop is part of a community-wide effort to develop a sustainable community plan, as well as to track progress toward achieving sustainable lifestyles and development. Compact fluorescent light bulbs will be handed out free to all attendees, as well as cookies from the Whole Earth Center, coffee from Small World Coffee, and bread from the Witherspoon Bread Company.

The Princeton Public Library, in conjunction with Princeton Regional Schools, Princeton Regional Schools PTOs, Princeton Charter School PTO, and Cranbury Public Schools PTOs, will present an evening with Jim Trelease, author of The Read-Aloud Handbook this Thursday, October 25, at 7 p.m. in Trego-Biancosino Hall, at Princeton High School. Admission is free.

Friends of Princeton Open Space will host a native plant workshop centered around the flora of Mountain Lakes on Sunday, October 28, at 2 p.m. Participants will meet at the Community Park North parking lot (Mountain Ave and Route 206) for a walk led by Steve Hiltner, who will describe how the autumn colors reveal the dynamics between natives and exotic species. The Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater New Jersey Chapter will hold a candlelight vigil on Monday, November 5, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Hinds Plaza. The event follows Gov. Jon Corzine’s declaration of the first Monday in November as Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Day. “One Night, One Light: New Jersey Stands United for Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Day” will bring together individuals and families affected by the disease, as well as friends and supporters. The Arts Council of Princeton is looking for gently used or never-before-worn clothes to be transformed into works of art at the “Swap-o-Rama-Rama,” Sunday, November 11, from noon to 5 p.m. at the conTEMPORARY Arts Center located in the Princeton Shopping Center next to Eckerd pharmacy. The event will consist of do-it-yourself stations that will transform used items into art. Those who donate items will receive a 50 percent discount to the otherwise $10 per person event. All clothing (except undergarments) will be accepted including belts, buckles, buttons, beads, patches, and other items.
