Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will speak at Princeton University on Friday, September 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Alexander Hall’s Richardson Auditorium on the Princeton University campus. The event is free, but tickets are required for entry.

Bernanke, who taught at Princeton for two decades before entering public service in 2005, was invited to speak by two University centers, the Bendheim Center for Finance and the Center for Economic Policy Studies. Tickets for the lecture will be available to Princeton students beginning at noon Monday, September 20, during regular business hours at the Frist Campus Center Ticket Office while supplies last. Beginning at noon Tuesday, September 21, tickets will be available for faculty and staff at the same location while supplies last. The ticket office will issue one ticket per Princeton University TigerCard ID, and individuals may bring up to two TigerCard IDs. Tickets for the general public will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. on the 21st at the Richardson Auditorium Ticket Office while supplies last. Two tickets will be provided per person. Ticketholders must be seated by 4:15 p.m., at which point seating will be opened to individuals in a wait line. For security reasons, no umbrellas or backpacks will be allowed inside the venue. The talk also will be simulcast in McCosh Hall, Room 10. No tickets are required for the simulcast, and the viewing is open to the public; food and drinks are prohibited. The lecture also will be webcast live and archived online for later viewing at www.princeton.edu/webmedia. Visitors to campus should park in Lot 23 near Faculty Road and Elm Drive, and take the TigerTransit shuttle service to the venue.

The Princeton Public Library’s Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, September 21, at 5:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes and the County Division of Veteran Services will burn thousands of American flags in an official flag decommissioning ceremony on Friday, September 17, at 5:30 p.m. in Veterans Park in Hamilton Township (across from Steinert High School on Klockner Road). Each year, the Mercer County Division of Veteran Services partners with local veterans from the American Legion Post 31 and the Hamilton Township Patriotic Committee to hold the time-honored decommissioning, also known as “flag retirement.” American flags that have become tattered, soiled, or are otherwise “no longer fit for display” will be burned in a dignified manner in a pit in the ground during the ceremony and the flames will eventually be doused by firefighters from the Nottingham Fire Company of Hamilton. Veteran Services has collected thousands of flags eligible for retirement for the past several months from American Legion Post 31, private homes, the veterans section of Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, and government offices like the Mercer County Clerk and Sheriff’s Offices.
