The seniors on this year’s Princeton University football team have experienced some of the greatest highlights in recent program history.
As freshmen in the fall of 2006, they went along for the ride as the Tigers posted a 9-1 record and tied for the Ivy League title with Yale. The season was a highlight reel of dramatic moments, featuring an epic comeback win at Yale and an overtime win against Penn.
Mark Paski didn’t get the chance to ease into things during his freshman season on the Princeton University football team.
Before Princeton’s preseason scrimmage with Yale, the offensive lineman learned that he would be in the starting lineup for the 2006 opener at Lehigh.
They were the Mutt and Jeff of the Princeton University boathouse in the mid-1990s.
Marty Crotty was a heavyweight star who helped that program to national titles in 1996 and 1998 while Greg Hughes was a wiry lightweight and a driving force behind a crew that took a national crown in 1996.
It was midway through the fourth quarter last Saturday and Doug Bryant was still hustling for the Princeton High football team.
With PHS trailing 14-13 at Nottingham in the season opener for both teams, senior receiver Bryant galloped down the sideline looking to run interference for Nick Miranda, who had gathered in a Mike Olentine pass.
There were some bumps in the road last fall as Pat Quirk took the helm of the Hun School boys’ soccer team.
Dealing with heavy graduation losses and a series of injuries, Hun struggled to an 8-10-2 record, a far cry from the 14-6 mark posted in 2007.
Pat Trombetta has dubbed this fall as the “season of opportunity” for his Princeton Day School girls’ soccer team.
After an inspiring run last fall to the state Prep B championship spearheaded by senior stars Erin Cook and Cammie Linville, PDS head coach Trombetta is looking for some of the program’s supporting players to take a leading role.
