A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week: "What are your views on the community adopting measures that limit so-called 'McMansions'?"

"Basically, I am in favor of keeping structures as they appear on the outside. One of the things that makes this community nice is the exteriors of the houses and how they fit in, and to ruin that scale by putting up structures that don't fit in, is a real shame. Therefore, I am in favor of putting limitations."

Dick Wieland, Moore Street

"We have a community image that I would like to see retained. For example, my house was built in 1926 and it has been well maintained. I think it is fine to rebuild houses, but when they become gargantuan — I have seen some that I can't imagine what people do with them — it is out of line."

Ed Obert, Jefferson Road

"I am a liberal person, so if people want to build 'McMansions,' they should be able to do that."

Ulrich Mueller, Jefferson Road

"My feeling is that in Princeton, there are so many nice neighborhoods, and that their integrity should be maintained. I am not opposed to new housing or the tearing-down of old housing, so long as the neighborhood's character is maintained."

Kathie Miller, Hawthorne Avenue

"Personally, I like the smaller houses in neighborhoods like this, but people should be allowed to do what they want with their land. As long as the house fits into its surroundings, I do not have any problem with it."

Wendy Kolani, Henry Avenue
