Helen Dougherty

Helen Dougherty, 82, of Princeton, died September 17 at Stonebridge at Montgomery in Skillman. A Princeton resident for 57 years, she moved to Stonebridge last December.

Born in Drexel Hill, Pa., she was a graduate of Mater Misericordia Academy and Rosemont College.

She was a longtime member of The Present Day Club, where she served on the house committee. She was also an avid reader, gardener and bridge player.

Predeceased by her husband, Joseph Dougherty, and a sister, Jeanne George, she is survived by four daughters, Joan Murray of Downingtown, Pa., Carol Palmer of Salisbury, N.C., Susan Rizzo of Lawrenceville, and Meg Coghlan of Skillman; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A funeral mass will be held at the Aquinas Institute, Library Place and Stockton Street, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the Aquinas Institute.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville 08648.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Kimble Funeral Home.

Robert L. Harvey

Robert L. Harvey, 98, of Princeton, died September 19 at home.

Born in Knoxville, Tenn., he had been a Princeton resident for more than 60 years.

He earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee.

He was employed for 41 years by RCA Corporation, where he participated in the early development of radio, television and radar. He was the holder of many patents and the recipient of several RCA Achievement Awards.

A member and past master of Princeton Masonic Lodge No. 38, he was also a member of the Old Guard.

Predeceased by his wife Edna in 1972, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Alyce Tuska of Durham, N.H.; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

The funeral service will be this Saturday, September 25, at 11 a.m. at The Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue. The Rev. Dr. Virginia B. Smith, pastor of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Princeton Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on September 25.

Walter T. Herrman Jr.

Walter T. Herrman, Jr., 87, of Tuckerton, formerly of Kingston, died September 15 at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin.

Born in Conowingo, Md., he had lived in Kingston for most of his life before moving to Tuckerton nine years ago.

He was retired from the Carpenters Local No. 781 in Princeton.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the European theatre.

He was a life member of both the Kingston Volunteer Fire Company and the Hamilton VFW Post No. 3525.

Son of the late Hazel Stewart Herrman and Walter T. Herrman, Sr., he was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte E. Herrman. He is survived by a daughter, Patty Herrman of Barnegat; two sons, Thomas of Hightstown and William of Hamilton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Helen Van Liew of Tuckerton.

The funeral service was September 18 at the Kimble Funeral Home. Interment in Kingston Cemetery was private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville 08648; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Abraham Sherman

Abraham Sherman, 91, of Princeton, died September 13 at the Sheltered Care Nursery Facility in San Diego, Calif.

A Princeton resident since 1955, he was a member of the patent staff at David Sarnoff Research & Laboratories from 1955 until his retirement in 1977. He previously worked with the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization.

He was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, C.C.N.Y., Brooklyn Law School, and the Law School of New York University.

He retired from the U.S. Army as a major, having served in Karachi during his World War II tour of duty as a chemical warfare officer.

Predeceased by a son, Steven, he is survived by his wife, Blanche; a daughter, Rita Winningham; a brother, Mike; and four grandchildren.

Interment was in Long Island. A mourning period was observed in Brooklyn Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Public Library; the Pediatric Oncology Research Center of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem; or the Jewish Center of Princeton.
