Wornham’s heroics, though, weren’t enough as Princeton fell 35-22 in the debut of new head coach Bob Surace. The Tigers will look to get into the win column this Saturday evening when they host Lafayette (0-2). |
Bob Surace was a bundle of nerves last Saturday in making his debut as the head coach of the Princeton University football team.
“You are excited and anxious,” said Surace, reflecting on what was going through his mind in the moments before the contest at Lehigh. “You want to find out how your guys are going to respond when things get moving at game speed.”
Over the course of the afternoon Surace saw his guys do a lot of good things as they battled the Mountain Hawks before a crowd of 6,344 at Goodman Stadium.
Alex Douwes and her teammates on the Princeton University field hockey team were longing for a challenge as they hosted Syracuse last Sunday.
After starting 4-0, outscoring its foes 26-3 in the process, No. 4 Princeton knew it would get a run for its money from ninth-ranked Syracuse.
“I think we needed a test like this,” asserted senior back and tri-captain Douwes. “We have played four opponents and they were all good games but nothing challenging enough to take us to the next level.”
Although Alli Salazar is going through an adjustment process in moving to sweeper this fall for the Princeton High girls’ soccer team, she received a good tutorial on the position last season.
Justin Ward has provided plenty of offense for the Princeton Day School boys’ soccer team over the last few years.
In 2009, the lanky striker was one of the most potent scorers in the area, tallying 22 goals.
But coming into his senior season, Ward knew that he needed to provide more than goal production for the Panthers. “As a senior captain, I am trying to push everyone to work hard,” said Ward.
Featuring a mammoth offensive line that averages 270 pounds a player, the Hun School football team appeared to be pounding Episcopal Academy (Pa.) into submission last Friday.
