The Princeton Community Democratic Organization will host a reception honoring the Democratic candidates for Princeton Borough Council and Princeton Township Committee on Saturday, October 3, 4-6 at the home of Margaret Griffin and Scott Sillars, 59 Battle Road, Princeton. The first-ever joint fundraising event will support the candidates local campaigns. The suggested donation is $25. The Mercer County Republican Committee will hold its fall reception for Assembly, County, and Municipal candidates on Wednesday, September 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the home of Joan and Aileen Crowley, 15 Leonard Court in Princeton. Special guest will be Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadangno, a candidate for Lieutenant Governor. The cost of the event is $150 per person; $250 per couple. The Princeton Regional School Districts Special Education PTO will meet on Thursday, October 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the library of the John Witherspoon Middle School. The evening is planned as an opportunity to meet other parents, staff, and child study teams from across the district. Dr. Agnes Golding, Director of Student Services, will be the featured speaker.
All families with classified students are automatically members of the dues-free organization. The Special Education PTO is represented on each school PTO and the PTO Council, as well as at the monthly meetings of the Board of Education, and serves as an informal and discreet network for parents seeking information. A ceremony to honor Hispanic Heritage Month will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at 2:30 p.m. at Tropical Family Restaurant, 120 Lalor Street in Trenton. Hosted by Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes and members of the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders in conjunction with the County Division on Culture and Heritage, the event will honor the Latino Merchants Association of Mercer County, a non-profit organization that represents and advocates for Latino owned and operated businesses in the County.
The Coalition for Peace Action will mark the eighth anniversary of the Afghanistan War with a screening of the film Rethink Afghanistan at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road. Discussion after the film will be led by a former Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan (and CFPA Vice-Chair) Marc Tolo.
