William Gilbert (Gil) Kayser Jr. of Princeton died July 30.
Born in Philadelphia in 1918, he lived in Summit, N.J. before moving to Princeton in 1961.
He graduated from Princeton University in 1940 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He was an active member of the Alumni Association, chairing his 50th Class Reunion.
He worked as a research chemist during World War II and then in various positions in the organic chemicals industry, retiring in 1986 from the Pennwalt Chemical Corporation in Philadelphia where he was director of the Organic Chemicals Division and director of business development.
Active with the Old Guard of Princeton University, he was also an avid barbershop singer who sang with the Princeton Garden Statesmen.
A parishioner of All Saints' Church since 1961, he sang in the church choir for most of those years.
His first wife, Joan (nee Bach), died in 1979. His second wife, Luna (nee Mitchell Heron), died in 2003. He is survived by a daughter, Virginia P. Kayser of Hopewell; a son, Kenneth W. Kayser of West Orange; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held August 6 at All Saints' Church.
