The unflappable Kalemba ended his Princeton career as the program leader in wins (57), shutouts (nine), and save percentage (.912). After a stint with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League this March and taking part in the Tampa Bay Lightning prospects camp in July, Kalemba is looking to catch on with a pro organization later this month before NHL training camps start in September.

Over the course of his sterling career with the Princeton University men’s hockey team, star goaltender Zane Kalemba was known for his coolness under fire.

The unflappable Kalemba ended his Princeton career this past winter as the program leader in wins (57), shutouts (nine), and save percentage (.912). He was second in goals against average (2.46) and saves (2,680).

But with Princeton going through an up-and-down season in his final campaign, Kalemba’s levelheaded nature was tested.

Josh Berger was pretty much clueless when he initially came to the Textbook Goaltending program as a 10-year-old.

“When I first got here, I wasn’t even comfortable in the ” recalled Berger, now a rising junior at Princeton High. “I was starting out; I had no training beforehand. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play the position.

It didn’t take long for Berger to develop a comfort level with the demanding position.

Last Wednesday night, French soccer star Thierry Henry thrilled a crowd of 19,035 at Red Bull Arena as he produced a slick assist to help New York to a 1-0 victory over visiting Toronto.

Weeks earlier, Princeton High boys’ soccer star Paul Ehrenworth was thrilled to be on the same pitch as he took part in the Red Bulls High School Cup.

After getting chosen for the game, Ehrenworth was excited to learn that it has grown into a national event.

Coming into the summer tournament season, Jim Tesone was confident that the Princeton Babe Ruth 13-year-old all stars were ready to do some damage.

“We had a nice balance; we were trying to be better and compete at a high level but have more kids involved,” said Princeton manager Tesone.

“We kept them together in the winter; we did work at batting cage and we went to the John Witherspoon gym and did some throwing. In some years, the guys have come out on April 1 and they haven’t touched a bat and glove since the summer. Our guys came in a little better prepared.”
