Philip M. Hull
Philip Montque Hull, 71, a Princeton resident for more than 50 years, died August 27 at Capital Health Systems at Fuld.
Born in Mardela Springs, Md., he was a 1952 graduate of Salisbury (Md.) High School.
A former member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs, he became a member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Princeton, where he served on the usher board.
He was the owner and Operator of P.M. Hull's Trucking, offering general hauling, snow removal, and the sale of fresh Maryland produce during the summer. He was previously employed by the Nassau Inn, Cap and Gown Club, Hun School, and the State of New Jersey Department of Corrections in Jamesburg, Skillman, and the New Jersey State Prison. He was named Officer of the Year in 1987 and was an active member of the Policemen's Benevolent Association.
Son of the late James and Bertha Hull, and brother of the late James Jr., Purnell, and Sabra Hull, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Florence Hull; six children, Andrea Hull of Ewing, Phillip Hull Jr. of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Evelyn Simpson, Phylis Fennell, Thomas Hull, and Bertha Hull, all of Hamilton; an adopted son, Kelvin J. Ball of Fitzgerald, Ga.; two sisters, Fannie Carter of Salisbury, Md. and Arelela Cray of Mardela Springs; a brother, Stanley of Dover, Del.; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 31 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, 170 Witherspoon Street.
Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery.
Calling hours will be August 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are by the Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.
Holt Apgar Murray
Holt Apgar Murray, 86, a longtime resident of Princeton, died August 22 in Princeton. He was a World War II bomber pilot with the Eighth Air Force and former vice-president of Crescent Insulated Wire & Cable Co., Inc. of Trenton.
Born in Trenton and raised in Yardley, Pa., he was a graduate of the Mercersburg Academy and attended the University of Virginia. During his senior year, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After serving as a flight instructor in the U.S., he was sent to the European Theatre where he flew 35 B-17 missions over enemy territory. He was the Commanding Officer of the 525th Bomb Squadron. He led the 379th Bomb Group on several missions and led all of the B-17s of the Eighth Air Force on one mission. He held the rank of Major and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as the Air Medal and clusters. Following the war, he continued to fly as a private pilot.
In 1945, he joined Crescent Insulated Wire and Cable Co., Inc., which was founded by his grandfather, the late C. Edward Murray.
The former president of the New Jersey Council of Electric Leagues and former president of the Central Jersey Electric League, Mr. Murray was active in numerous area civic associations. He served for 25 years as a member of the Mercer Medical Center and he was a founding member of the Bucks County Scientific Society. Before moving to Princeton in 1965, he was a resident of Harbourton and served as a member of the school board of Hopewell Township.
He served as president of the board of directors of Stuart Country Day School and was a volunteer at the University Medical Center at Princeton. He was also a member of the Nassau Club, a charter member of the Princeton Officers Society, and a former member of the Princeton Old Guard. An antique car buff, he was a member of several antique and classic car clubs.
Son of the late J. Cornell and Anne A. Murray and brother of the late J. Cornell Murray Jr., he was also predeceased by a son, Holt A. Murray Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Regina Waldron Murray; a son, Thomas Waldron Murray; two daughters, Regina Murray and and Anne Murray; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two step-granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Skillman. Entombment was in the family mausoleum at Ewing Church Cemetery, Ewing.
