Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

“When considering the need for senior housing, do you support the development of the Princeton Ridge?”

“I think that we have to be very careful about potential environmental effects. I am involved with the watershed and I would like to make sure that we are going to have good water management. I am still not sure whether I support it or not but we must be very careful about the environment.”

Betsy Hoover, Westerly Road

“Basically, yes. Older people have to have a place to live and this is as good a place as any. This depends on the possibility of other solutions and if there aren’t any, the housing has to be somewhere.”

Aline Akselrad, Lawrenceville Road

“I am not decided about that yet. I really care about the environment and I care about seniors so I am in a quandary about that. It is important to keep the seniors in this town but we have to be concerned about the environment and where we locate housing is always a question. I need more information to decide.”

Patti Daley and Riley — Dorann Avenue

“No, I do not support it because it is an environmentally sensitive area. They need to re-evaluate the need for senior housing and if they can’t get the housing to fit into the age 62-and-up category, then they might not need it as badly as they think. I am concerned about the environmental impact for the building that has been proposed.”

Ellen Foos, Griggs Drive

“Absolutely not. It is removed from the core of the city where you want seniors to be. The geology of the ridge is inappropriate because of the cost for blasting into the stone. Those factors will make the cost of the project so high and it is probably why the developer wants to reduce the age minimum of the project from 62 to 55. We know that today, seniors are more like 70 and up. Also, it is an important open space where we need the trees for watershed purposes.”

Wendy Ludlum and Ayla, S. Harrison Street
