A GRAND REOPENING: The Arts Council of Princeton opened the doors of its newly renovated and expanded Paul Robeson Center for the Arts on June 5. Pictured: Architect and Princeton resident Michael Graves, who donated the design for the building, sealing the moment with a handshake from Paul Robeson, Jr., prior to cutting the ribbon at opening day ceremonies. Also on hand (from left): Marilyn Robeson, Arts Council Executive Director Jeff Nathanson, Founding Director Anne Reeves, Borough Mayor Mildred Trotman, and Township Mayor Phyllis Marchand. The WPA-era building was expanded in size from approximately 9,000 square feet to almost 17,000. It quickly embarked on its mission to feature local and national artists in its gallery and theater spaces.

With the presidential election and the downturn in the economy at the forefront, 2008 has definitely made itself felt in Princeton, where local merchants are anxiously totaling results of holiday season sales, and the municipal governments are facing cuts in services and spending next year. Here is a look back at the year and some of the events that will continue to affect Princeton.
Prospects for making up the projected shortfall in the 2009 budget without raising taxes or finding extra sources of revenue looked grim during last Tuesdays Borough Council meeting.
At a relatively brief meeting on Monday morning, Township Committee members heard reports on a fun bond sale, and the use of a disproportionate amount of salt on icy roads during the recent bad weather.
When it came to Princeton University athletics in 2008, things were spiced up by teams who made their presence felt nationally.
Coming off its holiday break last season, the Princeton University mens hockey team absorbed a 6-1 beating at Minnesota State.
Playing at defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth for a two-game set before starting its holiday break, the Princeton University womens hockey team produced an up-and-down performance emblematic of their season so far.
Although the Princeton High girls hockey team wasnt at its sharpest in beating Upland Country Day 7-4 before the holiday break, it did display two qualities that should hold it in good stead the rest of the season.
