To the Editor:
As I complete my term on Princeton Township Committee, I want to say how much I’ve enjoyed working with the many colleagues I’ve had on Committee, the Regional Planning Board, and the Township Zoning Board of Adjustment.
During the give and take of the decision-making process, I’ve tried to keep in mind that elected and appointed members of Committee, Boards, and Commissions represent all residents of the Township, and that decisions made during our terms are built on decisions our predecessors made, and will have consequences — some intended and some unknown — beyond our tenure.
I want to acknowledge and thank the members of our Boards and Commissions, often unrecognized and unsung, who give freely of their time and provide expertise and perspective that comes only with knowledge in a particular field.
I also want to recognize the outstanding Township staff. They are knowledgeable, they provide thoughtful advice, they are respectful of those who appear before our appointed and elected bodies, they keep us operating within the confines of the laws governing our operations, and they are consistently professional.
During the course of my tenure in local government, I came to recognize the significant role the institutions of higher education and research play in making our community what it is. They are commanding physical presences, they are economic drivers, they contribute to the consistent desirability of and turnover in our housing supply, they ensure demographic diversity, and they offer cultural and educational opportunities to the whole community.
We often struggle with these institutions to determine the balance between their interests and other individuals, businesses, and institutions that call Princeton “home.” I don’t expect these struggles to cease, but I do want to express my sense that any community that has housed such institutions for decades has treasures that provide stability, challenges, and excitement, and I am thankful to have overlapped in time and place with them.
To close, I want to thank all those who have provided support to me personally over the past years of my community service, especially my husband, Dick Bergman. I would not have been motivated or able to serve it if it weren’t for him.
Thanks to all who have offered their good wishes for the next adventure I’ll undertake.

To the Editor:
Princeton PBA 130, which represents the Patrol Officers working for the Princeton Borough Police, held its second annual toy drive this season. Even in hard economic times, the residents of Princeton came through. Dozens of new unwrapped toys were donated by members of the public and PBA members. On December 23, these toys were dropped off to HomeFront, an organization that distributes them to children in Mercer County who otherwise would go without.
PBA 130 would like to extend a huge “thank you” to all those who donated to this worthy cause. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season.
