A Dixie Chicks CD was blaring in the locker room of the Princeton University women’s hockey team at Baker Rink last Friday night and the players sang together as they went through their post-game spinning session.
The Tigers had reason to be happy since they had just pulled out a 3-2 win over visiting Yale, pushing their winning streak to six games and keeping pace in the team’s quest to finish in the top four in the ECAC Hockey play.
Junior assistant captain Stephanie Denino summed up the team’s mood as she reflected on the win over the Bulldogs.
It was one of the worst weekends in a rough season for the Princeton University men’s basketball team.
Traveling up to New England last February to play at Harvard and Dartmouth, the Tigers fell 77-64 to the Crimson in overtime before getting dismantled 71-52 by the Big Green.
As the Tigers made the same trek last weekend, they were determined to make amends for last year’s dismal showing.
As Mike Moore started his senior year at Princeton University in the fall of 2007, he was not sure where he would end up after graduation.
Moore proceeded to have a dream season for the Princeton men’s hockey team, leading the Tigers to the ECAC Hockey championship and earning first-team All American honors in the process.
Moore’s heroics caught the eye of the National Hockey League and afforded him a plum post-graduation opportunity, landing a dream job as he signed with the San Jose Sharks organization after the season.
It was his last regular season meet for the Princeton High boys’ swimming team and senior co-captain Alex Zantal wasn’t going to let his teammates down.
Despite battling illness, Zantal came through for PHS as it battled WW/P-S last week, taking second in the 100 freestyle and helping the 400 free relay team to a win.
While PHS ultimately lost the meet 94-76, PHS head coach Greg Hand was proud of the grit shown by Zantal.
Amber Bowman got off to a hot start last Thursday as the Stuart Country Day basketball team hosted Lawrenceville.
The sophomore guard fired in nine points to help Stuart build a 17-11 lead after one quarter.
But then Bowman went cold, going scoreless for two quarters as Lawrenceville fought back and narrowed the Stuart lead to 40-37 after three quarters.
With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Bowman caught fire, making some big steals and scoring six points to help Stuart hold on for a 58-53 win over the Big Red.
