Ethel May Wells, 84, died January 5 at Park Place Center in Monmouth Junction. Born in Lawrence, she lived in South Brunswick Township for over 55 years. While she held various positions throughout her lifetime, her greatest was as a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. church in Princeton. Wife of the late Barnes H. Wells Jr., she is survived by her daughter Bonnie Wells-Howse, one grandson, Daniel Howse, and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, 170 Witherspoon Street. Interment was at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by the Hughes Funeral Home.
Maria Elba Sadama-Foxell, 56, died Friday, January 8, at her home. Born and raised in Sanchez Mira Cagayan, Philippines, she came to the United States in 1976 and has been a resident of Princeton since 2000. A parishioner of St. Paul’s Church of Princeton, she was a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit with Lutheran Hospital in Brooklyn and a founding member of the Philippines American Nursing Association. Daughter of the late Anacleto Sadama, she is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Foxell of Princeton; her mother Apolinaria Deza Sadama; three brothers, Dante Sadama of Piscatway, Eduardo Sadama of Chicago, and Edwin Sadama of Philippines; a sister, Genedina Sadama of Philippines; two sisters-in-law, and a niece and nephew, Jennifer and Paul Sadama, who are both nursing students.
The funeral will be held 10 a.m., Thursday January 14 at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 214 Nassau Street, Princeton. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, NY, N.Y. 10065.
Rosa Jewel McGowan, 98, of Princeton, died January 4, 2010, at the University Medical Center at Princeton. Born in Camilla, Texas, she was a graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School in Texas and Texas Southern University. A longtime Princeton resident, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church since 1943 and was a volunteer at the University Medical Center at Princeton.
The wife of the late Rev. Olin Dewalt McGowen, she is survived by her son Alvin J. McGowen, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 9. Interment was in Princeton Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Hughes Funeral Home.
