Mark Magnowski is used to being one of the guys among the nine seniors on the Princeton University men’s hockey team.

But with a rash of injuries hitting the Tigers, Magnowski has been carrying on this season without such key classmates as Jody Pederson, Cam MacIntyre, and Kevin Kaiser.

Peter Twining and his teammates on the Princeton High boys’ ice hockey team started 2010 with a bang.

PHS topped Nottingham 9-1 on January 4 in its first action of the new year and then tied perennial power Notre Dame 1-1 last Wednesday.

On Friday, junior forward Twining contributed two first period goals as the Little Tigers cruised to an 8-1 win over Ewing.

Tara Thomas was a member of the supporting cast last winter for the Princeton High girls’ basketball team.

Splitting her time between the JV and varsity teams, Thomas worked hard to develop her game.

Despite some initial apprehension, it didn’t take long for Peter Blackburn to fit in as he joined the Princeton Day School boys’ hockey team this season after starring the last two winters for crosstown foe Hun.

“It is a similar school obviously but it is hard transitioning to a big rival school,” said Blackburn. “When I came in, everyone was really welcoming.

When we played our preseason games, we were all out here having a good time.”

The high-scoring junior forward has been giving PDS some good production up front as he has quickly developed a comfort level with his new teammates.

Rubin Maturing Into Key Floor Leader as PDS Boys’ Hoops Makes Progress

A.J. Rubin was put on the spot last Thursday as the Princeton Day school boys’ basketball team hosted Timothy Christian.

The junior point guard was sent to the foul line several times in the waning moments of the contest as Timothy Christian cut a double-digit PDS lead down to four.

Rubin calmly stroked in four free throws down the stretch as the Panthers held on for a 49-44 victory.
