Campaign Finance Reports filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission for Princeton Borough's recent Democratic mayoral primary show that challenger Kim Pimley raised more than twice the amount of money as incumbent Borough Mayor Mildred Trotman, whose campaign finances included unopposed Borough Council candidates Andrew Koontz and Roger Martindell. Ms. Pimley raised $43,489, of which $40,448 was spent (including $2,100 for lawn signs). Ms. Trotman raised $19,724 (including $7,710 left over from an earlier campaign), all of which was spent. The major part of Ms. Pimley's funds ($36,850) came from contributions in excess of $300, with several donations of $1,200 from Ms. Pimley's neighbors. Most of Ms.Trotman's campaign funding came from contributions of $300 or less. Ms. Pimley received 357 total votes. Mayor Trotman received 686 votes.

The Palmer Square Kiosk reopened last Friday, June 29, after months of renovations that have added 86 square feet, bringing the kiosk's total area to 257 square feet. While the kiosk was being remodeled by Jerry Ford of Ford 3 Architects of Princeton, the newsstand operated out of the old Hinkson's store on Nassau Street. Originally opened in 1985, the newsstand has been owned and operated by Kam Modesh for the last four years. Besides now selling coffee to patrons, Mr. Modesh is awaiting approval by the Borough Council for the addition of a flat-screen monitor that is intended for the display of bus timetables and information about Palmer Square and downtown Princeton events.

Princeton Regional Board of Education has announced that it will hold a Facilities/Finance Workshop on Wednesday, July 11, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and a Personnel/Program Workshop on Wednesday, July 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., both in the Valley Road Administration Building. The purpose of the workshops, which are open to the public, is to discuss committee goals for the 2007-08 school year.

Roadwork has begun on Marion Road East and Marion Road West where the Township's contractor, Top Line Construction, is removing and repaving sections of driveways for a proposed elevation of the new roadway. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of the day on Thursday, July 5, weather permitting. Beginning on Friday, July 6 (weather permitting), Top Line Construction will be placing topsoil, seed, and mulch along both roads. The final paving is tentatively planned for the week of July 7. Princeton Township Shade Tree Commission has cancelled its scheduled meeting for Thursday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m. in Meeting Room B of the Municipal Complex, 400 Witherspoon Street. Also cancelled is the next regular meeting of the Site Plan Review Advisory Board that was scheduled for July 11.
