Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

"What does Independence Day mean to you?" (Asked at the Coalition for Peace Picnic and the Fireworks Display)

"It means standing up for an ideal of what America stands for which is equality, justice for all, cooperation in the international community, and seeking what is best for all people on earth."

Reverend Bob Moore, John Street

"For me, Independence Day is a new beginning. It's a group of people gathering together and battling against a government that was unjust. It is also a reminder that oftentimes the laws set by government aren't necessarily the correct laws and that there is a higher standard, a moral law, and a time that people need to come together to take hold of their country. That is what we are here to talk about at this patriotic event. While those in power might be using their authority in a way they believe is valid, there is a time in which people can step up and say that is not the correct way to use your power and that is not the way we want you to run our government."

Blake Sercye, P.U. Student, Forbes College

"It is an opportunity to restore our civil liberties and remember what makes America the envy of the rest of the world."

Grayson Barber, Locust Lane

"It's all about the spirit of the Princeton Community and spending time with our family and friends."

Julie Swanke (L) with friend Michelle Sefani, Greenhouse Drive

"It means that, despite our differences, we all stand together as one country."

Leslie Pell Linnehan with Kate, Skillman

"It's about remembering people like Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and George Washington who risked everything for our country, creating a great democracy by throwing public opinion to the wind and doing what is right."

Jon Mclain, Poe Road
