IT’S ALL RELATIVE: Sunday’s post-storm drizzle did nothing to dampen the spirits of pi (and pie) enthusiasts who arrived in Palmer Square to participate in the festivities. The date, 3/14, comprises the first three digits of the irrational number pi and is also the birthday of one of Princeton’s most famous residents. While Einstein’s visage is absent from the board to the right, close inspection reveals it elsewhere in the photo.

Following Pi Day Success, Merchants Assess Community Events, “Shop Local” Initiative

Despite the abysmal weather, merchants reported town-wide enthusiasm for Sunday’s Princeton Pi Day, marveling at the turnout. “It’s hip to be a geek,” joked Shopping Center General Manager Chris Hanington. “It really puts you on the map.”

Tilghman Covers History of Race and Science in Annual James Baldwin Lecture at University

Princeton University President Shirley Tilghman called for a robust dialogue between scientists, social scientists, and humanists during her talk, “The Meaning of Race in the Post-Genome Era.” Sponsored by the Center for African American Studies, the James Baldwin Lecture featured Ms. Tilghman’s take on how scientific discourse has affected how people imagine race and racial categories over time.
