Users of Princeton’s Crosstown 62 transportation service no longer have to pay for trips to and from the University Medical Center at Princeton. Crosstown 62 is a door-to-door transportation service for Princeton Borough and Township residents who are over age 62 and/or handicapped with either a permanent or temporary disability that prevents them from driving. Users of the service pay $2 per ride, with the municipalities subsidizing the remainder of the cost. Now, however, Princeton HealthCare System, the hospital’s corporate parent, is subsidizing the $2 fare for rides to and from UMCP. Princeton High School and the PHS PTO will host a discussion on substance abuse in the Princeton community tonight, November 14, at 7 p.m. in the Princeton High School cafeteria. The talk was announced in a November 7 letter to parents from PHS Principal Gary R. Snyder and PHS PTO co-chairs Annie Youssoufian and Sheree Dunnett. The letter stated that the information gathered at tonight’s discussion will be used for a follow-up program with an expert panel on January 14. (LA)

The Princeton Community Democratic Organization will host a talk this Sunday, November 18, by Jeffrey Laurenti, titled “Reclaiming American Global Leadership: Is United Nations in the Way?” Mr. Laurenti, the director of foreign policy programs at the Century Foundation, a New York-based public policy institute, will deliver his talk at 7:30 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Center, behind Princeton Borough Hall. The Princeton Regional Health Department will co-host a talk Monday, November 19, by Dr. Daniel Barnett from the Johns Hopkins Center for Public Health Preparedness, focusing on emergency preparedness planning from the vantage point of both health and emergency planning professionals, and the general public. The program will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room at Princeton Township Hall at 400 Witherspoon Street. The Princeton Regional Health Department, the Princeton Emergency Preparedness Working Group, and the Mercer County Health Officers Association are sponsoring the talk. Princeton Township Committee: Phyllis L. Marchand (D), 2,107; Arden Lance Liverman (D), 2,086; Cindy W. Randazzo (R), 1,219; Esther Mills (R), 1,204.
