With the Princeton University women’s lacrosse team knotted at 10-10 against Dartmouth late in overtime last Sunday and needing a win to make the Ivy League tournament, Tiger freshman Caroline Rehfuss appeared to be wilting under the pressure.

The attacker blew a free position chance, winging the ball high over the cage and against the wall at Princeton Stadium. Seconds later, she got another shot but misfired again.

But showing the resolve that characterized the underdog Tigers as they clawed back from a 7-3 halftime deficit to the No. 7 Big Green, Rehfuss made good on her third attempt, taking a Charlotte Davis feed in a traffic jam in the crease and finding the back of the net.

With Star Defender Irving Back in Action; PHS Boys’ Lacrosse Stifles WW/P-N 13-8

Michael Irving’s right knee was taped due to a lingering tendon injury and he took several big hits as the Princeton High boys’ lacrosse team battled WW/P-N last Wednesday in a showdown of Colonial Valley Conference powers.

But those bumps and bruises didn’t keep the star junior defenseman from inflicting pain on the Northern Knights.

Spearheading the PHS defense with his skill and aggressiveness, Irving helped spark the Little Tigers to an impressive 13-8 win over the Northern Knights.

With Goalie Frieder Thriving Under Pressure, PDS Girls’ Lax Primed for Postseason Push

Jess Frieder has no problem with pressure situations.

The Princeton Day School junior stepped into the starting goalie role for PDS girls’ soccer team from day one freshman year and has played every game since, helping the Panthers to the state Prep B title in 2008.

Frieder has also served as the last line of defense for the PDS girls’ lacrosse team, handling the goalie duties as the Panthers have advanced to the Mercer County Tournament (MCT) title game in her first two campaigns.

Senior Star Scott Keeping Nose to Grindstone as PDS Baseball Looks to Peak at Right Time

After losing consecutive games to Hun and Hamilton last week, Jon Scott and his teammates on the Princeton Day School baseball team were determined to get back on the winning track last Friday when they hosted Princeton High.

Batting in his customary clean-up spot, senior catcher Scott contributed a single in the bottom of the second to help PDS jump out to a 1-0 lead. In the third, he contributed a walk as the Panthers went up 2-0.

In the fifth, Scott stroked another single as PDS scored two runs to take a 5-2 lead on the way to an 8-2 victory.

DiGregorio Family Enjoys Dream Evening as Benefit Sparks Big Community Response

Former Super Bowl hero and legendary New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms was in attendance last Wednesday evening at Nanina’s in the Park at Belleville.

Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano was there along with record-setting Princeton University and former Giants running back Keith Elias.

But the center of attention at the packed banquet hall was 12-year-old Princeton resident Derek DiGregorio.
