HomeFront Thanksgiving Dinner for 6,000 Made Possible by Amazing Community Effort

To the Editor:

As we pause to reflect on our blessings over this Thanksgiving holiday, we once again find the generosity of the community overwhelming. Hundreds of individual volunteers and volunteers from businesses and congregations collected and delivered the makings for a traditional festive Thanksgiving dinner to over 6,000 needy parents and children in our community. This amazing effort made it possible for these families to celebrate the holiday around their own table in their own home.

The first Thanksgiving was not just a family affair. The entire community sat at the table — and invited Native Americans to join them. Over the years, this uniquely American holiday has retained this sense of community. It is a day for all of us, rich and poor, of all races and religions, to symbolically join hands around the festive table.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our neighbors and friends who gave time, money and food to help HomeFront once again give real meaning to this grand American tradition.
